The Fisherman and the Oyster

With the Royal Wedding approaching fast, you would want to understand better the English heritage and lifestyle. One of the small fishing and harbour towns that really touched my heart is the traditional sea town Whitstable. With more than 3 generations of fisherman families running local businesses, this is the right place for you to indulge in freshly captured white fish and by far... the best oysters in the country. Mapped on the Kent coast, only 50 minute driving from our London home, it is indeed a charming place ideal for a one day escape or why not, even a long weekend away to cut off the ongoing London noise.
With romantic fisherman’s cottages and a relaxed seafront atmosphere, Whitstable’s charm is given by the well-loved houses, its atypical architecture and as mentioned above, its divine fresh oysters. Once you fall in love with the Oysters Festival capital, you can go back in time spending hours browsing the chic boutiques on the high-street, hunting for vintage treasures and antiques. Here, the time stood still.
If a gourmand like us, you will have plenty of choices from the traditional local businesses so nicely presented, to the exquisite fresh fish and various sea fruits. The place is packed with smart young families and I swear to you that if you don’t own a doggie, you literally can’t even consider moving to Whitstable. It is simply adorable seeing all the fluffy toy-poodles owning this sea-side town.
My other half and I simply fell in love with this full of character sea town and it became our escape hiding place for this summer. Not that secret anymore ...I guess but sharing is caring and I can't help thinking how magical it all feels when I'm there, simply being...all care free, full of smiles and laughter.
